Handcrafted in West Michigan

Boards that outlive the kitchen.

Each one is shaped from a single slab of figured hardwood — quilted maple, curly maple, mahogany — carved by hand, finished glass-smooth, then signed and dated underneath. Made to be handed down, not thrown out.

Serving & cutting boards

No two slabs alike.

Quilted and curly maple with figure that shifts as you turn it in the light, mahogany with deep reddish grain, live natural edges left where the tree drew them. Sculpted, chip-carved handles you'll want to pick up. Finished food-safe and smooth as stone.

What people say

“The board feels like a piece of furniture, not a kitchen tool. A year of daily use and it still looks better than the day it arrived.”

— Maya R., Grand Rapids

“I had him inlay a trout for my husband's birthday. He hasn't stopped showing it to people. Best gift I've given.”

— Daniel K., Chicago

“You can tell one person made this with their hands. The figure in the maple, the carved handle, the little number on the bottom — it's an heirloom.”

— Priya S., Ann Arbor

Meet the maker

One bench, one pair of hands.

Knotty Burl Woodcraft is a single workshop, not a factory. Every board is shaped from one solid slab of figured hardwood — never glued-up scraps or veneer — so the grain you see on top runs all the way through.

Handles are carved and textured by hand, inlays cut and fitted one at a time, and everything is finished with food-safe oil until it's smooth as stone. No stains, no plastic, no shortcuts.

The number burned into the underside is the running count of pieces that have left this shop. Yours is the only one with its grain — built to be on a kitchen counter long after we're both gone.

Keeping it alive

Care is three simple habits

01

Wash by hand

Warm water, a little soap, dry with a towel. Never the dishwasher, never left soaking.

02

Oil it monthly

When the surface looks dry or pale, wipe on food-safe oil, let it drink overnight, buff off the rest.

03

Let it patina

Knife marks and deepening colour aren't damage — they're the record of meals made.
